This day after Thankgiving thing again...

Posted by Roddykat in ,

Twas the week of Thanksgiving and all over the place, everybody's waiting for Friday, like it was a damn race!

Yep, the day that people all over the U.S. braces for in anticipation. The one Holiday to rule them all, for retail stores. Yes, I'm talking about the first official shopping day of Christmas. Forget the day before and the turkey that is eaten on that day. that day is to give thanks for the two days off and the the shopping therein. Sounds snarky? Maybe a bit, but let's get to the reason of the post. Black Friday is the day in question, and though I don't know why it's called that and don't put much stock in it, but there is a purpose for those who do. The purpose, there are deals to be had and here is where to do a couple of them. The sales are usually out before the actually day and here are a couple of places to find them.

Dealnews.com
Mild mannered deal and (online) coupon site by day, early Black Friday sales poster by Thanksgiving. I've not used this site before, but I may come here more often for coupons to online stores and such.

Black Friday.info
The original (well, at least the first one that I've come across) site for Black Friday deals. Just like Dealnews, they have the ads the week or more before the day. They also have coupons and apparently a shopping list that you can access should you sign up with them (that's at your discretion).

One note: Walmart has been having sales for the last few Fridays to try to siphon off the madness that is Black Friday. One of these said sale was a $99 HD DVD player from Toshiba. I missed out on that, but it doesn't matter because I'm not trying to get into this HD Format war. That's another story. Wally world had also banned sites such as these from posting their ads before this week for reasons of selfishness and sales, I'm sure.

Anyway, I'm sure there are more sites with other stuff, but really, I have a feeling they will be repeating the same ads. So, you have your ammo, go give 'em hell. I'm not trying to be out in that mess. That's what the internet is for. And Cyber Monday, as stupid as that sounds.

P.S.

I almost forgot, there is also one of my favorite sites out there, Woot.com. They have one thing on sale every day. Mostly something electronic in nature, but worth a look. Sometimes, they have side deals that are ironically on the top of the page and you get a song if nothing else. There is also there sister sites, wine.woot and shirt.woot for...those items.

(EDIT)
And I TOTALLY forgot about Fatwallet.com. They've been doing their thing for a while now. possibly longer than Dealnews. I don't know. Check them out also. OUT!

National Novel Writing Month

Posted by Roddykat in

Just a reminder. It's National Novel Writing Month(also known as NaNoWriMo). Yea, I know this could have come a few days sooner, but I know there are some people who could no only cacth up, but do the thing upside down with one hand behind their backs(you know who you are). And it'd be a best seller, probably. The premise is simple. Write a novel on a month. 50,000 words minimum. That's about, what, 1,500 words a day for the whole month of November (plus/minus the catch up from being 7 days short). It doesn't even have to been Pulitzer Prize winning, just done. The advice I heard was to "write now, edit later". It's really not to late to get on it either. Just go to this site and check things out. Here are the basics that you might want to know. This has happened for the past couple of years and one of these years I am going to get in on this. All I want to add is that if you do get on this, I would love to read it*! Just holla at me should you do so. I would encourage any writers to do so. You never know what might come out of it.

Peace

* - My track record on doing this is not so good, but I do have and try to make every attempt to do so.

Testing, testing.....HEY YOU!!!
(now that I've gotten your attention...)

How's thing? Cool. Yea, it's been a while, but I offer no real explanation as to why. Put it this way, it's not for lack of content. In fact, I am gearing up for my yearly ritual coming up. Thought I would bat this one out to clear off the dust from the keyboard. Actually, that's a lie, because there isn't a speck of dust on the keyboard. I've been been surfing around for the longest and I've come to a conclusion. There is a lot of ish out there on the 'Net to check out. I've been trying to peep it all, but it's a bit overwhelming. Now, I am not anywhere new to the web and it's trappings, but it can still be a bit much sometimes. Porn doesn't watch (or make) itself, you know. And really, there are more people writing more interesting blogs (personally) that put me to shame.

Now that's not to say that I am ultra boring (except right now), but if you are coming here thinking you will been taken on a bizarre ride to the far side of my personal life, sorry to disappoint you. My life is not that exciting. I would say check out good people on the left or the links above for that. However, if you care to see the musings of a major minor geek and some possible good links to great music, check the left again...wait, I may be able to help in that department. Geez, I almost for about that. At any rate, that's the state of state of things here. I haven't completely dropped off the grid, just really doing more lurking, if anything. In fact, this pic...

may explain some things... Ok, it's just an excuse to throw that LOLcat in here. I should be ashamed for that, but I'm not. There have been a couple of time wasters that I've gotten into also. Both are games. One is called Peggle.

Popcap Games - Peggle (Scroll down to find the free online version or go to MSN Games).

From the makers of Bejewelled, Zuma, and other simple crack, comes this. It's the devil. And by that I mean it can be addictive for a
a seemingly strategy lite game. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The other game is the Flash version of a downloadable game called Portal. It's pretty fun if you like puzzle solving. Check that out here.

Yea, I know. I don't usually talk about games here, but you asked for this. Well, you didn't ask, but I'm giving it to you anyway. I have been checking the music scene, but I'm gonna save that for another time (sorry Gee Double). What I'm really hoping that the one or two of you stick around (as if you hadn't) for what I might have to say. If not, no worries. You'll miss out on the geeky. And yes, that is supposed to denote that you are missing out on something good. So anywho, thank you for those who stuck around during my absence. I hope not to disappoint more than I already have. Oh and to answer a message that I just recently got, I'm really feeling Jill Scott's latest, as well as a possible jaunt into the world of Macy Gray's latest endevour. And I'm getting my Soul back, if that's not enough. You don't know what that means, but trust me you'll like it. On that note, take this!!
